About

This is a simple random word generator. Tap Generate and you get a word. Use More options to choose nouns, verbs or adjectives, set a first or last letter, limit the length or syllables, or ask for up to 20 words at once.

The word list

The list holds everyday English words, drawn from the WordNet lexicon and ordered by how often people use them. Very rare words, offensive words and tiny function words such as "the" and "of" are removed, so most of what you see is a word you would recognise.

What people use it for

Writers use it to break a blank page, teachers use it for spelling and vocabulary games, and groups use it for charades, drawing games and icebreakers.
