What we store on your device

Your chosen options and your cookie preferences are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless a feature below says so, and you can clear them at any time from your browser settings.

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account to use the generator and we do not sell personal data. When you use the suggestion box or the cookie preferences panel, the text you enter may be sent to our hosting and database provider so we can read it or apply your preference. Like any web service, our providers see your IP address and basic device details in server logs, and we use them to keep the site secure and to limit abuse.

Words you suggest in the suggestion box are stored without any link to you. A plain new word may be added to the shared word list straight away, and anything that looks inappropriate is held back for review.

Network details

When you tap the Generate button several times in quick succession, the page may send your IP address and a rough location (country, region and city as estimated by our hosting provider) to our database to check for related activity from a nearby device. A short log of these checks is kept for 7 days and then deleted. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not ask for your device location. At the same time the page may play a short, near-silent tone that carries a random code, so a nearby device can recognise it. The code is random, is not linked to you, and is deleted within minutes. This page never uses your microphone.

Cookies

The site works without optional cookies. You can review your choices at any time using Cookie preferences in the footer.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Contact us using the suggestion box and say what you need.
